Making History
One of the most revolutionary ideas behind Black Lance is the history concept. The world in which Black Lance takes place grows as it's community participates and develops current events. As players actively assume roles within a House, changes both politically, economically, and militarily alter. Special Administrators called "Scribes" watch and record the passing of time in Black Lance, and compile the events in the "Tome of History", accessible to all players.
Small records of personal history are kept with each individual player. When you meet another player online, you have the opportunity to view his or her "History Log" which outlines the players quests and personal events. These events are updated automatically, and cannot be fabricated by the player. Whenever a player completes a quest, that quest will write a single line in the players log. For example, upon completion of "The Hunt for Ternol the Wizard" the line "Participated in the Hunt for Ternol the Wizard" would be added to the log. The line added to the log is customized by the creator of the quest. Other events can be written in by "Scribe" Administrators.
Larger feats of glory or shame can also be recorded within the Tome of History. Events recorded here pertain on a more global basis. Outbreaks of war, declarations of peace, victorious tournaments, and major quests are stored here by Scribe Administrators. Those names which appear frequently in the Tome of History have the chance of recieving Administrative Powers, or even Legendary Status.
